Our Story

The origin of many companies is - no surprise - based on the past of their founders. In the case of Roasted & Toasted, it was more of a counter-reaction!

Born in Montana, Fritz Morrissett was raised by her English mother and German father. Though a beloved woman, her mother was not blessed with a desire to experiment in the kitchen. Thus, standard British fare from the 1960s and 1970s was the dominant theme. Think liver and onions, for instance.

When Fritz moved to Seattle for college, a different world presented itself. Before too long, her new home started to revel in something heretofore ordinary, namely a good cup of coffee. There was in fact more to life than instant coffee. Lattes and cappuccinos started to proliferate.

Once married and with four children, Fritz found it incumbent upon herself to make school lunches and family dinners as appealing as possible. Whether her family lived in California, Texas, Montana, or North Carolina, Fritz enjoyed experimenting with the local produce to make meals as engaging as possible.

Typical of most families, praise was faint but word got back to her that her children were selling her sandwiches at school in North Carolina! This bolstered her confidence and prompted her to experiment all the more.

Her house started to receive more and more guests, namely high school friends of her children who showed up on weekends at opportune times ... to be fed!

When the interior design business took an ominous turn after the financial crisis of 2007/8, she looked for something more recession proof. Ultimately, by 2014, she opened a stationary Roasted & Toasted store in a high traffic area in Sanford, serving primarily Belgium Lige waffles and coffee from certified organic, small farm, shade grown, locally roasted beans.

Before too long, her offerings were in great demand and she opted to expand via a food truck. Soon thereafter, the first food truck led to a second food truck, and an ever expanding menu.

Today, fresh Açaí bowls, whole fruit smoothies, spritzers, breakfast grills, and grilled paninis complement her original specialty coffee and waffle offering. One result is that Roasted & Toasted is now in demand for morning to evening events.

Whatever the time, Roasted & Toasted offers something that appeals, just ask its hundreds of satisfied and loyal customers here in central North Carolina!
